Hello everyone! Many thanks to Sunrise Frederick for alerting me to this group's presence, very happy to get started working on recommendations to help FredCo mitigate the effects of climate change as much as possible. 😊 I've been reading a lot of publications from Rewiring America, which basically advocates for mass electrification everywhere, immediately (if I could sum it up in four words or less). Full information can be found on the website (https://www.rewiringamerica.org/) and the Rewiring America Field Manual (https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5e540e7fb9d1816038da0314/t/5f21edad94f7832d9b1a31bf/1596059082636/Rewiring_America_Field_Manual.pdf). Looking forward to working with you all more soon! 😊🌎
Rewiring America is one of many groups advocating for Electrifying Everything. Electric options are going to be more efficient than alternatives that burn stuff. Plus, once you electrify something you open the path to using zero carbon renewable energy sources.
I will have to check them out! LEED also covers things like site location, water management, building footprint, and materials used. Of course on site renewables and green electricity count towards points as
So true! And the sheer number of jobs that would be created is really exciting, that's one thing I really like that RA focuses on 😊. They have a more in-depth white paper on specifically jobs created by mass electrification here for anyone who's interested: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5e540e7fb9d1816038da0314/t/5f209173294b6f5ee41ea278/1595969952405/Jobs_White_Paper_Compressed_Release.pdf
Does the Rewiring America (or other entity) include information on, price estimates of the infrastructure that will be required for not only production of renewable power and its transmission from where it will be produced to where it will be used? Will that be paid for by rate-payers; will it have to go through public utilities commissions? In other words, are there estimates of increase in demand to the utilities and how that demand will be met? Will it mean we will need more nuclear, more hydro in addition to solar/wind/geothermal? If so, could you provide specific link to this information? I've only heard any conversation about this from NYSERDA, but not much in other areas. Thanks!

World electricity demand is expected to double by 2050 due to mass electrification
Let's make any new development LEED certified

Hey Joanne! Yeah RA has a general cost breakdown on pp. 70 of the Field Manual I linked to above (link here too, for convenience: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5e540e7fb9d1816038da0314/t/5f21edad94f7832d9b1a31bf/1596059082636/Rewiring_America_Field_Manual.pdf).
Thanks. I'll check that out.
