Cooler Neighborhoods Advisory Council
We have formed an Advisory Council to help us implement this project as seamlessly as possible. The Advisory Council will provide a wide range of perspectives, solve barriers to tree plantings and community outreach, and help develop a workable strategic plan.
Members will help build the Community Forums and Trust Hubs, find locations for meetings and tree plantings, and identify candidates for part-time work.
Strategic Planning
By 2030, we will expand tree planting activities that have the potential to achieve 40% tree canopy in 6 selected Justice 40 neighborhoods.
Achieved through:
● Gathering data on the scope, need, and methods for tree plantings and maintenance;
● Hosting a series of meetings involving the Advisory Council, project staff, community members, and project participants; and
● Featuring ideal planting areas, best methods for community engagement, and effective training protocols.
We are partnering with the University of Maryland’s Environmental Finance Center to develop our strategic plan.
We will have a draft plan ready by November 2026 for discussion, adjustment, and buy-in. Our project will be a small part of achieving the City’s overall 40% canopy goal, so we want to create a guide for future efforts.
We welcome community input! If you have an opinion on Frederick’s tree canopy or local environmental workforce development efforts, please contact us to attend one of our upcoming meetings.
Thank you to our Cooler Neighborhoods Partners!
